Skill-Boosted AI: A Game Changer in Biomedical Research?

In the fast-evolving arena of AI, large language models are becoming indispensable tools in biomedical research. But there's a catch. Many AI outputs skip important steps or stretch conclusions. That's where this study comes in, exploring if giving AI a skill set could up the game in analyzing medical research, particularly for non-small cell lung cancer biomarkers.

The Experiment

To test this, researchers pitted six AI model backbones against each other in a head-to-head showdown. Some were your standard models, while others had a skill package boost. The task? Analyze transcriptomic research for immunotherapy biomarkers. A team of four non-expert reviewers and two blind experts judged 21 anonymized outputs, 9 were regular AI, 12 were skill-boosted.
