Microsoft’s AI Hustle: Can Scott Hanselman Turn the Tide?

Microsoft faces challenges as AI products falter and Github stumbles. VP Scott Hanselman addresses the catch-up game.
Microsoft, once the tech titan everyone feared, now finds itself in a peculiar position. Its shiny new AI products aren't flying off the shelves, and GitHub, its darling acquisition, is stumbling more than striding. Scott Hanselman, a VP at the company, has a lot on his plate.
Microsoft's AI Struggles
Let's cut to the chase. Microsoft's AI game isn't living up to the hype. The company's been pushing AI-powered features and products left and right, but the reality is they're not selling. So what's going wrong? Maybe it's the competition. Maybe it's the execution. Or maybe, just maybe, it's the fact that not all AI is truly intelligent. I mean, the press release says AI-powered. The product says if-else.
GitHub's Growing Pains
Then there's GitHub. The platform was supposed to be the crown jewel in Microsoft's developer strategy. Instead, it's got some serious growing pains. Bugs, downtime, and user frustrations have plagued the service. For a platform that's supposed to be as reliable as a Swiss watch, that's not good enough. GitHub needs to get its house in order before developers start looking elsewhere.
Is Microsoft Playing Catch-Up?
I had the chance to chat with Scott Hanselman about all this. Is Microsoft in catch-up mode? He wouldn't say outright, but reading between the lines, it seems like they're scrambling a bit. Microsoft needs a win, and fast. They can't afford to let competitors like Google and Amazon eat their lunch.
So why should you care? Because if Microsoft, a company with seemingly infinite resources, can't get its AI products to sell, what does that say for the rest of the industry? If they can't persuade developers to stick with GitHub, where will they go? The tech world is watching, and so should you.
In the end, Hanselman and his team have their work cut out for them. They've got to prove that Microsoft's AI isn't just smoke and mirrors. Show me the product, Scott. Until then, I'll believe it when I see retention numbers.
