Lucid Bots is Cleaning Up Big Money with Drone Tech

Lucid Bots has secured $20 million in funding, signaling its ambitious growth in autonomous cleaning. With new tech and a unique business model, they're changing the way cleaning is done.
Lucid Bots Inc. just scored a $20 million Series B funding round, catapulting its growth ambitions autonomous exterior cleaning. With Cubit Capital and Idea Fund Partners leading the charge, this Charlotte-based company is set to redefine how we think about cleaning skyscrapers and parking lots.
From 100 to 700 Drones in No Time
Rapid expansion is an understatement Lucid Bots. They've increased their drone deployments from 100 to nearly 700 units in just five months. It's not just about quantity, though. The Sherpa drone, one of their flagship products, now offers new capabilities like spraying sealants and paint, thanks to a power tether option that extends flight times indefinitely. Nearly $1 million in pre-orders for this feature alone shows they're on the right track.
The story looks different from Nairobi. Here, a tethered drone isn't just about efficiency, it's about enabling tasks that were previously impossible in hard-to-reach places. And that's the point. Automation doesn't mean the same thing everywhere. For Lucid, it's about reach.
Not Just Drones, But a Whole New Business Model
Lucid Bots isn't merely selling drones. They're selling a business model. Their Lucid Refresh platform supports operators with everything they need on a subscription basis. As Vic Pellicano, the company’s president, puts it, “It's less like buying equipment and more like adding a robotics division to your business.” This approach allows operators to expand into new areas without heavy capital investment.
It’s smart. The farmer I spoke with put it simply: Why own the cow when you just need the milk? With Lucid Bots, operators can execute jobs previously beyond their reach and do so with the precision only robotics can provide.
Building a Data-Driven Future
Lucid's systems are continually evolving, backed by a wealth of operational data. Each cleaning job feeds into an AI that learns, adapts, and improves over time. Ryan Godwin, of Godwin Facility Services, highlighted that the Sherpa drone has elevated his business, allowing him to offer services competitors can't match.
But here's the kicker: Is data alone enough to maintain a competitive edge? With heavyweights like Disney and Sunbelt Rentals already on board, Lucid is betting big that their data-driven approach will keep them ahead of the curve. Yet, in practice, maintaining that edge will require constant innovation and adaptation, something Lucid seems ready for.
As Lucid Bots continues to expand its product line and market reach, the real question is how scalable this model is across different industries and regions, especially in emerging markets where the needs and challenges are distinct.
