Clinicians are heavily involved in editing these drafts, specifically focusing on what the study calls 'consumer-to-clinical normalization.' This means replacing layman’s terms with their clinical equivalents.
According to the data, clinicians made 7,576 such transformations across 4,114 note sections, translating to about 5.8% of the entire text. The Assessment and Plan sections alone accounted for a whopping 59.3% of these changes. While some might tout this as an effective partnership between AI and human expertise, there's a deeper narrative here. Why are we still leaning so heavily on clinicians to make these changes? Shouldn't AI be sophisticated enough to generate professional-level documents in the first place?

The AI's initial attempt to simplify language for patient understanding comes at the cost of creating additional work for clinicians. In fact, the individual variance in transformation intensity among clinicians (p<0.001) suggests that not all healthcare professionals approach these edits in the same way.
